(9:30am-12:30pm) " The Ethical Responsibility of Providing an Accurate Diagnosis: The Implications of Personality Organization for Treatment”
Summary: APA has identified about 1000 brands of psychological treatments! That seems more like a produce of ignorance and narcissism than science. We need to be guided by good evidence based treatment findings and fit the best treatment to the needs of the person which includes a sophisticated ability to diagnose. Research suggests that Personality Organization is one of the most important diagnostic factors in treatment formulation REGARDLESS of theoretical orientation.
Objectives: Upon completion of the program, the participant will be able to:
1. Differentiate a Healthy Personality Organization.
2. Differentiate a Neurotic Personality Organization.
(1:30pm-3:30pm) “ Avoiding Medical/Psychological Errors: Know the Many Types of Depression”
Summary: Medical/psychological mistakes in diagnoses can lead to the wrong treatment, inefficient treatment, wrong medications or misuse of medications, unnecessary costs, prolong suffering and a possible malpractice suit. One size fits all therapy does not work with 15 different types of depression. Some respond best to medication, others do not. Some respond well focusing on the therapeutic relationship others do not.
Objectives: Upon completion of the program the participant will be able to:
1. Outline the 15 types of Depression
2. Appraise the Depressive Personality Syndrome from the PDM2
