Presenter: Martha Stark, M.D.

Martha Stark, MD, a graduate of Harvard Medical School and the Boston Psychoanalytic Institute, is a Holistic (Adult and Child) Psychiatrist and Integrative Psychoanalyst in private practice in Boston, Massachusetts.
Martha is Faculty, Harvard Medical School; Co-Founder / Co-Director / Faculty, Center for Psychoanalytic Studies; Founder / CEO / Faculty, SynergyMed for MindBodyHealth; Faculty, Psychiatry Redefined; Faculty / Scientific Advisory Board, Academy of Comprehensive Integrative Medicine; Adjunct Faculty, William James College and Smith College School for Social Work.

For many years, Martha was a Teaching Analyst at the Boston Psychoanalytic Institute and a Teaching / Supervising Analyst at the Massachusetts Institute for Psychoanalysis. She also has numerous teaching affiliations with local, regional, and national psychodynamic / psychoanalytic training programs.

Martha is an award-winning author of nine highly acclaimed books on psychoanalytic theory and technique – several of which have become “required reading” for candidates at various psychoanalytic training institutes across the United States and for students in various psychodynamic psychotherapy training programs both in this country and abroad.

Board Certified by the American Association of Integrative Medicine, Martha also contributes chapters to integrative medicine textbooks and articles to peer-reviewed toxicology / environmental medicine journals. Additionally, she serves on the editorial / advisory boards of various holistic health publications. Periodically, she is called upon to offer expert witness testimony on various toxic environmental exposures (including pesticides, volatile organic compounds, and mold).

The presenter is also an award-winning author of 9 books on the translation of theoretical concepts into clinical practice – she also relies upon her 45 years of intensive immersion in both the psychodynamic literature and her own clinical practice – she is an internationally recognized author and presenter – several of her books have become “required reading” for candidates at psychoanalytic institutes and for students in psychodynamic psychotherapy programs.

“The Art and The Science of Interpretation”

Summary:  The Art and The Science of Interpretation – formulating therapeutic interventions that will either “support the therapeutic alliance” and “set the stage” or “challenge and then support” in order to “create therapeutic

leverage

The content of this program provides guidance for the translation of theoretical concepts into clinical practice and will therefore be immediately applicable to the clinician’s day-to-day clinical practice

Objectives: Upon completion of the program, the participant will be able to:

1. Design a minimally stressful empathic intervention that supports the therapeutic alliance and sets the stage

2. Construct an optimally stressful conflict statement that alternately challenges the defense and then supports it

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint providership of American Psychoanalytic Association and the Tampa Bay Psychoanalytic Society. The American Psychoanalytic Association is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The Society certifies that these courses meet the requirements of the Board on an hour-per-hour basis for continuing education credits.
